Slowly I am withering- a flower deprived of sun; longing to belong to- somewhere or someone. –Lang Leav
Hello everyone! Today I have another makeup review for you. This time we’ll be reviewing a concealer. I currently own 3 concealers; and I use them for different purposes. I already posted my review of the Tony moly Face Mix Cover Pot Concealer; so now I’ll be reviewing a liquid type concealer: the Maybelline Fit Me! Concealer. This is my go-to everyday concealer. If you’re interested in knowing my thoughts about this product, please keep reading!
PACKAGING – Is it cute? Is the packaging too bulky or too flimsy or sturdy enough? Does it get dirty easily? Do I see myself travelling with it? Is it pretty enough to give as a gift to someone?
PERFORMANCE – Is it easy to use/apply? Does it blend easily? Is it beginner-friendly? Do I feel pretty whenever I wear it? Is the color match perfect?
LONGEVITY – Can I wear it for events? How about for extreme outdoor activities? How often do I need to reapply? Is the SPF high enough?
VARIETY – Is the shade selection wide? Do I see it working for different skin tones/colors? VALUE FOR MONEY – If it is affordable, I have lower expectations but I prefer it over luxury/expensive products for which I have higher expectations. Would I repurchase it?
PACKAGING – This liquid-type concealer comes in a classic tube packaging with a doe-foot applicator. The concealer wand is long enough to get product out of the tube until the last bit. The tube is sleek, thin and lightweight. It takes up very little space inside the makeup bag; so it is perfect for travel. The shade name can be found at the bottom of the tube; and important information regarding the product is also found in the packaging. The only con I could think of is: the writings on the packaging are easily worn off, especially if you use it regularly, like I do. Despite this, I did not deduct a point for Packaging because I personally do not mind that con at all.
PERFORMANCE – This concealer is probably my most recommended concealer to try for newbies at makeup. It is an all-around concealer that works well for all skin-types. It is neither too thick nor too liquid-y, so it applies and blends easily on the skin. However, it does not offer enough coverage for huge and red zits; but it works well for dark spots and the under-eye area. Because the formula is not too thick, you can build up the coverage up to medium. It also has a tendency to crease especially on the under-eye area; but most concealers crease on me anyway. I just make sure to always set it with powder. The shade 20 (Sand) also works well as both an under-eye and spot concealer for my light-medium skin tone.

Some Notes about the Ingredients:Top Ingredients
Water is the first ingredient; therefore it has the highest concentration.
Cyclopentasiloxane is a silicone derivative commonly used in cosmetic and skin care products. It is synthetically produced and has low viscosity. It absorbs quickly in the skin because it is considered an emollient that soothes and softens the skin. For more information regarding this ingredient, read https://thedermreview.com/cyclopentasiloxane/.
Glycerin is a moisturizing compound found in soaps, moisturizers and setting sprays/facial mists. I also buy pure glycerin from the drugstore to make my own facial mist. It is also an ingredient commonly used in skin care products.
Propylene Glycol is a type of glycol that I used in cosmetics as a hydrating ingredient. Some controversy surrounded this ingredient because some claim that it is a strong skin sensitizer; and that it is really just antifreeze. It is also said to be the main ingredient in brake and hydraulic fluid. However, the amount of propylene glycol used in cosmetics is really small; and it does not pose a threat to health and safety of consumers.
Titanium Dioxide is an “inert earth mineral used as a thickening, whitening, lubricating, and sunscreen ingredient in cosmetics. Itprotects skin from UVA and UVB radiationand is considered no risk of skin sensitivity. Because it’s gentle, titanium dioxide is a great sunscreen active for sensitive, redness-prone skin. It’s great for use around the eyes, as it is highly unlikely to cause stinging.” (https://www.paulaschoice.com/ingredient-dictionary/sunscreen-actives/titanium-dioxide.html) Titanium dioxide nanoparticles were also found to be safe to use on the skin.
2. Bottom Ingredients
Methylparaben and Butylparaben are kinds of paraben, which is an ingredient that has received a lot of controversy in the past years. Parabens are preservatives that have been used in a variety of beauty products for a long time; but they have also been highly criticized and, in some cases, condemned for use in cosmetics because of their alleged negative effects on the skin and their other controversial uses. Overall, studies about parabens are inconclusive about whether they are beneficial or harmful for the skin; and companies continue to use a small amount of it in some of their products.
Aluminum Hydroxide is a form of aluminum; and according to cosmeticsinfo.org, this ingredient is used in many types of cosmetics and personal care products including makeup and eye makeup products, lipstick, cleansing products, lotions, moisturizers, hair conditioners, other skin care products and suntan products. In cosmetics, it is used as an opacifying agent and as a skin-protectant.
Tocopherol is a form of the entire fat soluble Vitamin E molecule. This is one of the highly-rated and most popular skin care ingredients; because Vitamin E (especially in its natural form) is a good antioxidant.
Silica is a synthetic ingredient used as an absorbent powder and thickening agent. It also improves the consistency of makeup products by improving the distribution of pigments and preventing them from settling.
Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria Flower Extract) is from the chamomile flower. According to paulaschoice.com, chamomile has antioxidant properties; and studies show that it has skin-soothing properties and other benefits as well. However, there were adverse responses to chamomile reported among those who are also sensitive or allergic to other plants in the daisy family. So if you’re allergic to plants in the daisy family, you may need to avoid products that contain chamomile.
LONGEVITY – The Maybelline concealer has decent lasting power. It can last all day on my skin with minimal creasing as long as I set it with powder. In my experience, it also does not get patchy or blotchy, even when I’m staying outdoors all day or performing outdoor activities. It wears off nicely without settling on creases and lines on the face. This concealer does not have SPF so it can be worn for events where you will be taking flash photos.
VARIETY – In the Philippines, the Maybelline Fit Me! Concealer has 7 shades. (Fair, Light, Sand, Medium, Caramel, Honey and Deep) However, originally, the Fit Me! Concealer comes in 18 shades. I think most Filipinos can find a shade from the range that Maybelline Philippines offers; but I still hope they can bring all the shades here in the Philippines because I am sure more people with different skin tones can enjoy this product if they can find the shade that will match them perfectly.
VALUE FOR MONEY – This concealer retails for PHP 249 in the Philippines. Sometimes, it goes on sale for PHP 199. This is a really good price point because other concealers, even other drugstore ones, are way more expensive. If you are looking for a low-maintenance, everyday concealer, you can never go wrong with the Fit Me! concealer from Maybelline.
